Josh is the political reporter for WZZM 13 ON YOUR SIDE, the local ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Growing up in a small town and graduating with a class of roughly 30 kids, Josh was taught to understand the importance of fellowship and communicating with respect and understanding for a variety of viewpoints. A similar basis of trust and respect is the vehicle he uses to engage with those he meets and get answers.
And with a devoted history teacher for a dad, his passion and life calling in the realm of America's democratic system was something he discovered early on.
In such a key state, Josh is now always on the move throughout all-important West Michigan to make sure audiences are always heard and in the loop as to how the actions of their government are impacting them and how the campaign trail is evolving as they prepare to cast their ballots.
Back in the newsroom, he also co-produces and anchors "The Rundown" on Sunday mornings during election season and year yearround on 13 ON YOUR SIDE's streaming services. Through the show, he connects Michiganders with a one-stop shop for everything they need to know about the past week in Michigan politics.
In what feels like a past life at this point, Josh wrote and led as the News Editor of the Grand Valley Lanthorn at Grand Valley State University. His ascendency to the post came after working as the Lanthorn's premier state and national political reporter on top of his coverage of student government and other campus news.
He also spent several months in Washington, D.C., reporting for the Washington Blade and Los Angeles Blade on political and congressional events.
And before all of this, he took his chance to get years of hands-on experience in the political sphere that had always fascinated and enthralled him, serving as both an election inspector and scribe for local government.
From the halls of the Michigan State Capitol to the scorching pavement outside the U.S. Supreme Court the day the nationwide right to abortion access was overturned, Josh has reported amidst it all.
While years in the arenas of journalism and politics have passed, Josh has never lost his passion for covering government affairs. A duty to serve the public and the American democracy he grew up to revere is what drives him to go out into the world each day and report on what's happening, knowing he's doing all he can to make a difference.
When he's not busy being an excessively doting cat dad, you can find him working tirelessly to craft fact-driven stories with the most insightful angles possible. He carries a constant reverence for the key role journalism plays in America's system of democratic governance and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth.
